In recent decades, more schools and public works facilities have centered their capital projects around sustainable design principles and incorporating energy-saving measures.

Such initiatives to reduce our environmental footprint include using eco-friendly building materials, maximizing natural lighting, and designing for energy efficiency and indoor air quality throughout new construction and renovations. The Palombo Group has experience implementing renewable energy sources, installing LED lighting, upgrading HVAC systems, and optimizing building insulation to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Additionally, The Palombo Group has been tasked with creating green spaces, gardens, and outdoor classrooms to connect students with nature, promote biodiversity, and provide hands-on learning opportunities about ecosystems and gardening. We have built-out designated areas for recycling & composting stations, bottle-filling stations to reduce single-use plastics, and promoting water conservation measures by sourcing low-flow faucets and toilets.

ONGOING GREEN WORKS:

In 2022, New York State Governor Hochul announced a mandate for all schools to transition to a zero-emission fleet by 2035 in an effort to reduce – or even eliminate – emissions from public school transportation. While schools are working to make the switch from fuel to electric-powered buses, upgrading infrastructure to accommodate this new fleet will be a priority for the next 10+ years, as the infrastructure needed to support, house, and charge electric-powered buses is completely different from the bus garage of the past.
