Project Description

When the Spackenkill Union Free School District needed an addition and alterations made to the Spackenkill High School, the Palombo Group was the answer for their construction management needs. With a budget of $13,900,000 all three levels of the High School received some much needed attention.

The work included many new improvements and extensive renovations were made to many of the classrooms. The classrooms that were renovated include: the science labs and science classroom, the physical education and health rooms, the college/career development and counseling center, the band and chorus rooms, the special education rooms, and the conference and testing rooms. The main office reception area and the nurse’s station (including the space adjacent to it) were also renovated. The art rooms were relocated and renovations made with the building of a new classroom addition. A pre-engineering and a large group instruction room were also added with the addition, and a black box theater created.

Replacements brought the high school up to date and helped to ensure student health. The replacements included: asbestos flooring, kitchen equipment, plumbing and electrical systems in the kitchen, damaged classroom and gym doors, room heaters/ventilators along with the heating controls, cafeteria and library ceiling tiles, front doors and an elevator was added in lieu of the pre-existing lifts. For student comfort, air conditioning was installed in the Library and energy efficient windows were installed throughout the school. The building electrical system and exterior controls were updated and new furnishings and equipment were purchased for the school as well.

The project was completed in the fall of 2011.
