Project Description

The Marlboro Elementary School project, in which the Palombo Group took on the Construction Management role; was divided into two distinct parts: School Renovations for grades K-2 with a one story addition for full day Kindergarten and a new addition for Grades 3-5.

The K-2 portion of the project included a 10,000 square foot addition, removal of existing modular classrooms, Full roof replacement, building renovations (expanding the library/media center, upgrades to the gymnasium, new bathrooms, placement windows and doors, and kitchen improvements), Replacement of building systems (heating, ventilation, AC, pluming, electrical, ADA compliance and asbestos abatement), Technology upgrades (new computers, a new phone system, wiring and security), addressing of ADA compliance issues, and general building improvements (lighting, painting and window screens).

The new addition for grades 3-5 is two stories high and approximately 70,000 square feet. It includes a library/media center, a full size gymnasium with a stage area, cafeteria and kitchen, science lab and other various classrooms. A separate entrance was created for the main office, nurses’ office and a parent conference room. The Palombo Group was also responsible for providing new furniture and equipment as well as a separate parking lot with play areas and side walks for the new building.

To help with traffic flow the main entrance from Route 9W was reconfigured to contain a new traffic light, bus loop, and a revised parent drop off traffic pattern in addition to new parking, sidewalks, drainage improvements and relocation of play areas.

The project was completed on time in the summer of 2005 in order to be ready for the upcoming school year.
